Stitches Used

This design uses a combination of basic and textured embroidery techniques, including:

• Straight stitch

• Satin stitch

• Padded satin stitch

• Backstitch

• Whipped backstitch

• French knots

The pumpkins are created with layered padding and satin stitches to give each section a raised, dimensional appearance. French knots are used to add texture to the berries, acorn caps, and pine cone, including staggered rows that create a brick-like pattern.

DMC Colors Used

The sample design uses DMC six-strand cotton embroidery floss in the following colors:

920, 3012, 721, 676, 433, 934, 347, 223, 437, 722, 3031, 3857, 3777, and 3064.

Feel free to substitute colors according to your personal preference or the floss you already have available.

Pattern Transfer

The guide includes two pattern transfer options.

For the lightbox method, print the pattern at 100% scale or Actual Size, secure it to the lightbox, and trace the design onto your fabric with a heat-erasable pen. After stitching, apply heat according to the pen manufacturer’s instructions to remove the remaining traced lines.

For the water-soluble stabilizer method, print the pattern directly onto the stabilizer, trim around the design, peel away the backing, and adhere it to the fabric before stitching. Once the embroidery is complete, trim away the excess stabilizer and hand wash the fabric to dissolve the remainder.

Printing Instructions

Print the pattern at 100% scale or Actual Size to maintain the intended proportions.

Do not select “fit to page” unless you intentionally want to resize the design.
